We arrived to the site off hours, at 7pm. I had called beforehand to confirm there would be no issue with check in. I was assured Steve would be in the welcome hut when I arrived, and he would assist me and my husband with finding our campsite. When I approached the welcome hut, it was closed. A map my name on it was taped to the door and I presumed these were my instructions.
By using the map, we easily found our way to our campsite. At this point I was beginning to feel unwelcomed. My car could not make it to the campsite. It litterally became stuck in the steep dirt ramp and started to spin out. I feel as though I was not the first person to have issues with this site, as the pothole was quite deep and the rocks were very unforgiving. All of the tent sites are atop a very steep hill with exposed roots and boulders that require a four wheel drive vehicle with a great suspension to get to. I felt I was expected to have a SUV, which I did not. If you do not have such a vehicle, do not rent a tent site at shady acres.
I hate reading negative reviews when I know they aren't true. It was a big decision for us to move our seasonal site from New Hampshire to carver to reduce our ride. Jaclyn was so helpful and understanding in helping us find the right site. This has got to be the cleanest campground I have ever stayed at. There are always activities if you want to stay busy and it is quiet at night when you want to relax. I find all the staff to be friendly and accommodating.
Can't say enough good things about this campground. We are seasonal and find it quite enjoyable. Great park for the kids. Activities are run regularly for both kids and adults, and each weekend has a different theme. Have a great time catching fish in the private pond, and catching rays up at the pool deck. There is a fill size pool and a baby pool for the little ones. Management is absolutely wonderful! I could go on and on...
As we entered the compound, I immediately noticed this was a trailer park. Have you noticed that on google, Shady Acres is not listed as a campground? That's because it's not.
I had read some negative comments about the owners and daughter of this campground and I have to say they are TOTAL BS!! Upon arrival they could not have been any more polite and professional!! Extremely helpful with some issues I had with my spot and followed up later!! I am very impressed with the facilities and the warm family feel of this campground!!! 5 huge stars!!! Well done!!!
Great place to stay, the grounds are clean and we'll maintained. I've been camping here for about 5 years.the owner are very accommodating and will go to great lengths to make your stay a pleasant one.my family and I always have a great time there.
I reserved a campsite for my one year anniversary with my husband. It was supposed to be romantic. The woman I made reservations with over the phone even stated how beautiful the scenery was of the tent sites. The rest of the wedding party was to accompany me on this trip. It was supposed to be a grand adventure.
I simply wanted to have a nice romantic weekend with my husband and friends, and I felt Shady Acres would have ruined it if we had stayed.
We parked the car and investigated the site. I took note that these tent sites are the highest point in the campground, and with a lack of trees, it was vulnerable to strong bursts of wind. I also noted that the ground was mostly sand. We began to set the tent up, when it began to lightly rain. The sand turned to a slippery grit quite quickly, and would not keep the tent stakes down. A burst of wind took my tent and snapped the stakes.
The next morning, I returned to retrieve my broken tent and gear and spoke to the women at the front desk about my maladventure. She was very quick to say they would not reimburse my deposit. All of the staff I interacted with in person were quite rude, despite having been so sweet over the phone. We ended up bunking in an motel not too far away.
SHADY ACRES IS NOT FOR CASUAL TENT CAMPING. Heed my warning - you will need a nice tent rated for 30mph and a 4wheel drive SUV.
If you are looking for a family friendly campground this is the place. ⛺️
It's a trailer park.
I wish there was someone at the welcome hut as they assured, and perhaps to warn me of the wind, or the rain, or the difficult path leading to the campsite. I drove three hours to be here, and I found myself crying at the situation and no one to speak to.
